Hi, Chau, tell us a little bit about yourself, please.

I am a Vietnamese writer that wants to inspire and enthrall people to know that everyone of us is important to someone or an enrichment to someone’s life. When our eyes eventually close forever, our stories will be what the younger generation and the loved ones, who remembered and honored us, will carry into their tomorrow. We want it to be a positive influence, to inspire them to pursue happiness, and make their dream come true. We want them to thrive and make the impossible a possibility. As for me, I am just an ordinary writer trying to live an extraordinary life and here to tell stories to the best of my ability.

You’re both a writer and a filmmaker – what is it like to see something you’ve written happening in front of your eyes, real-time, with real people in real places?
It’s absolutely amazing to create nothing into something and for people to support and believe in my talents.

What gives you more satisfaction – the solitary process of writing or co-creating with people?
A writer cannot not write. I enjoy writing and the satisfactions are from people wanting and enjoying reading what I write.

Tell us more about Streethikers – Lifetrippers.
LIFETRIPPERS reality tv show is a show about making dreams happen and giving hopes to the hopeless. LIFETRIPPERS is a reality a game show developed to put the focus on the less fortunate in society while entertaining the audience. Participants will travel together in the LIFETRIPPERS’s RV and will face different challenges created by the producers in cooperation with a team of mental health professionals, re- employment experts, and life coaches. Participants will compete for prizes and opportunities that will enable them to get closer to realizing their dreams. In such a confined space as an RV, problems and drama will arise and conflicts may or may not be resolved. But the journey will continue … unless someone gets kicked off the RV! Participants will soon realize that they have to live with and be tolerant of different personalities if they are ever to fully achieve their dreams.

You have a lot going on – what is your typical work day like?
Busy, but I like that or I go crazy of boredom.

Do you have any special rituals or routines that help your creative juices flowing?
I like to go to places packed with people and people watch.

Who are your literary (and film) heroes?
My heroes are any man or woman, who goes against the naysayers and the doubters and the establishments, and prove them wrong or to endure and overcome great challenges.

Where do you get the inspiration for your work? In other creative’ work, other forms of art, life itself …?
You and people around me. The human race are versatile and interesting to me in all forms, from action to intent.

When developing a story, do you do a lot of research or do you just draw from your own experience and/or imagination?
All of the above. I also like to hear stories from older people that draws magical elixir of life experiences which I have not experience.

How important are Social Media for you as a creative to get your work recognized, to network with your fellows and audience?
Social media are very important because out of sight is out of mind. Social media are the nails I hammered until everyone heard of CHAU VAN TRUONG.

What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working to get LIFETRIPPERS reality tv show on and my many movie projects such as SECRETS KEPT, A KILLING STAR, THE NAISA MAFIA, etc. to fruition.

When you meet a young writer/filmmaker, what advice do you give him (her)?
You must believe in yourself and never give up. I ALWAYS LOOK AT THE MAN IN THE MIRROR, LOOK HIM STRAIGHT IN THE EYES, AND FORCE HIM TO BELIEVE AND CHANT THESE WORDS, “WORK HARDER, WORK SMARTER, AND DON’T YOU EVER STOP BECAUSE YOU’RE CHAU VAN TRUONG AND THAT IS WHAT YOU DO!”

Thank you, Chau!
